ELA Innovation launched a new wireless RFID magnetic sensor the COIN MAG. The Coin MAG has been development by the idea that we want to know real time if the door of your trailer or container is opened, or when a door in your building or your home is opened or closed

This new sensor directly integrates a magnetic sensor, coupled with its permanent actuator, the COIN MAG immediately transmits any change of state with its actuator. In addition, it can transmit regularly a " keep alive" frame.

This new sensor is as compact as the COIN ID (36mm, thickness 10mm), with the same transmission range (80m in open field). It is easy to install, easy to use and therefor the most appropriate industrial answer in asset security and building monitor applications.

The COIN MAG completes the existing COIN family, composed of the COIN ID for identification and location, the COIN T for temperature monitoring, the COIN RH for humidity monitoring and the COIN MOV for secure outdoor assets.

The COIN series from ELA Innovation is a series of long range active RFID tags operating at a frequency of 433MHz. Compared with passive RFID tags, active tags can generally be interrogated at a greater distance, and their signals can pass more readily through a trailer wall or other materials.

The read range of these tags can reach up to 100 meters (in open air) with a battery life of 10 years or more. The smallest tag in the COIN series measures just 36mm in diameter and 10mm in thickness. ELA innovation offers a wide range of active RFID readers to facilitate integration of your RFID solution.

People safety: a typical application example

How can you automatically count the people entering a construction site or detect people walking near construction equipment?

A long-range COIN ID RFID tag fixed to people's helmets can be used to detect the direction of their movement as they pass in front of the reader terminal, without any action on their part.

The PUCK family from ELA Innovation are heavy duty, long range active RFID tags operating at a frequency of 433MHz. The read range of these tags can reach up to 150 meters (in open air). Designed in a robust industrial IP68 housing these tags can be used in harsh environments.

ELA’s greatest growth has been in the deployment of ’telematics solutions’ for trucks and trailers, in which data about goods and drivers is transmitted via wireless sensors and tags to a reader, and is then forwarded by a cellular connection, such as the

The systems are used to identify the conditions of goods within a trailer, along with the open or closed status of the trailer door. This information is paired with GPS-based data, collected by a user’s automatic vehicle location box (such as the FOX3 from Falcom) and sent to a server. This way users can receive alerts of the unexpected opening of a trailer or the breaching of an accepted temperature range within the trailer.

The COIN MOV from ELA Innovation is a long range active RFID tag with internal motion sensor operating at a frequency of 433MHz. Active RFID is a form of Auto ID (automatic identification) characterized by the use of ID tags which are self-powered and typically emit a signal at a predefined rate. Compared with passive RFID tags, active tags can generally be interrogated at a greater distance, and their signals can pass more readily through a trailer wall or other materials.

The compact, IP68 waterproof COIN MOV can detect any critical movement of assets in large areas, indoor as well as outdoor. The read range of these tags can reach up to 80 meters (in open air) with a battery life of 4 years or more. If the measured movement is higher than the user programmed threshold, the COIN MOV sensor sends its identification code and movement value. Detected by an active RFID reader connected to a security system this signal will alert security people or generates protection relevant actions (visual or sound alarms, activation of surveillance cams e.g.)

The COIN T and ITEMS TD from ELA Innovation are long range active RFID sensor tags with a temperature sensor providing data about temperature conditions for example inside a trailer during transport. These sensors operate at a frequency of 433MHz, have their own battery, and typically emit a signal at a predefined rate. Compared with passive RFID tags, active tags can generally be interrogated at a greater distance, and their signals can pass more readily through a trailer wall or other materials.

The read range of these tags can reach up to 80 meters (in open air) with a battery life of 10 years or more. The COIN T is provided with an internal temperature sensor, the ITEMS TD comes with an external sensor. The M-V340 6-DOF inertial measurement unit (IMU) from Epson has three axes of gyroscopes and accelerometers, plus provides built-in support for two widely-used industrial and aerospace interfaces: SPI and UART protocol. At just 12x10x4mm in size, the M-V340 IMU is the smallest high-performance IMU on the market today. The M-V340 weighs less than 1 gram, and consumes just 16.5 mA of current, and is capable of withstanding high vibration and shock.

A variety of calibration parameters are stored in a memory of the IMU, and are automatically reflected in the measurement data being sent to the application after the power of the IMU is turned on. With a general-purpose SPI/UART supported for host communication, the

The true contactless position sensors from PIHER provide excellent repeatability, accuracy, resolution, linearity and high stability under harsh environment conditions such as vibration, electromagnetic noise, shock, extreme temperatures, dither, moisture or dirt.

Over the last 15 years the developments in the field of angular positions measurement using a variation of magnetic field amplitude induced by the displacement of a moving magnet has been intensified. To meet the demands of angular positions measurement PIHER developed the MTS-360 and PSC-360 series of contactless position sensors. PIHER offers 2 families of these contactless positions sensors, a hollow shaft and a shaft driven version.

PIHER uses a technology, in combination with the appropriate signal processing, that is only sensitive to the magnetic flux density of a small magnet rotating above the IC surface. This allows to decode the absolute rotary (angular) position from 0 to 360 degrees in a non-contacting way. The output is selectable between Analog, PWM and Serial Protocol. This technology enables the design of high performance non-contacting magnetic rotary position sensors without the limitations of potentiometric solutions (wear, electrical angle...).

Seiko Epson has developed a series of inertial measurement units (IMU) for industrial applications. These IMU series offer outstanding measurement accuracy and stability while being among the smallest and most energy efficient IMUs in its class.

These IMU's include triple gyroscopes and a tri-axis accelerometer, for 3 or 6 degrees of freedom. The gyroscope provides high accuracy and stability, while the accelerometer offers a dynamic range of up to +/- 6G. It offers excellent angular rate measurement performance and stability. These devices are also equipped with industry-standard SPI and UART interfaces and consume 30mA when operating at 3.3V.

Epson's current available IMU, the M-G350, has earned high marks from customers for its small size, light weight, and outstanding accuracy and stability. With the addition of the M-G352 and M-G362 to the product lineup, Epson will be able to support an even broader range of applications.

The M-G352 and M-G362 are equipped with additional new features, including a higher output data rate, an external trigger input, and counter reset function, making it easy to synchronize measurements with other sensors or with a GPS module in a user's system. Epson plans to begin shipping samples of the M-G362 and M-G352 in August and October of 2013, respectively.

Upcoming small IMU series
Seiko Epson recently announced that they successfully developed the world's smallest IMU. The new M-V340 measures 10 x 12 x 4 mm, weighs 1 gram, and consumes just 18 mA of current, typical. Epson will begin shipping samples of the M-V340 in December 2013.
